let’s talk……
When it comes to admitting that we’re stressed out and overwhelmed some of us clinicians can adopt a very stoic attitude and continue to suffer in silence. Whether or not this silence is due to not wanting to appear weak in some way by not being able to cope , or simply not knowing who to turn to, this delay in seeking help often means that our warning signs go unchecked and consequently we suffer detrimental effects to our physical and mental health.
Although it is well documented that medicine and dentistry are highly stressful professions there seems to be an astonishingly small number of resources out there that deal with this problem.
WHAT IS COACHING?
Coaching is a support service that is used to empower individuals to reach their goals through a process of questioning and accountability far faster than they would if they were working alone.
The coach - client relationship is an equal partnership, whereby through a series of questions a client works through a coaching framework to establish a desired outcome and the action steps that they are committed to taking.
All sessions are bespoke, completely confidential and non judgemental.
what coaching is not
Coaching is not about your coach giving you suggestions, advice or telling you what to do- this would be more the role of a mentor or consultant. A coach will support you to set goals and objectives that you generate yourself and will facilitate your journey to achieving them.
(If you commence with a series of coaching sessions and it is deemed that coaching is not the correct support mechanism for you at this moment this will be discussed with you directly to find a suitable solution to support your onward journey).
